Kylie Buday (she/her) was appointed as a member of the Tribunal for a six-month term commencing on October 17, 2022. She holds degrees from the University of Victoria (B.A.Hons., 2000 and J.D., 2008) and Dalhousie University (M.A., 2006). She clerked for the Honourable Karen Sharlow at the Federal Court of Appeal (2008-2009).
Ms. Buday has worked as legal counsel for First Nation governments in B.C., Ontario and the Yukon. In addition to her work across Canada, Ms. Buday served as a refugee status decision maker and advisor for over three years with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Damascus, Syria and Geneva, Switzerland respectively. She has also worked as a trauma-informed investigator, mediator and decision maker on discrimination and harassment complaints, and has assisted in the development and implementation of policy and procedures on discrimination, harassment, and sexualized violence.
Ms. Buday is on temporary leave from her position as an investigator in the Office of the Ombudsperson of B.C., where she responds to disclosures of wrongdoing under the Public Interest Disclosure Act.
